Insomnia affects an estimated 70 million Americans, yet most never receive structured treatment.
They manage with medication, white noise apps, or sheer exhaustion.
CBT-based therapy addresses the root cause: the thoughts and behaviors keeping your nervous system activated when it should be winding down.
At New Life Therapy, we recognize that poor sleep doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is connected to anxiety, trauma, stress, and mood. Our approach addresses the whole picture.
Sleep Is Not The Problem.
It’s A Symptom.
Safety and sleep are deeply connected.
When the nervous system stays on high alert, rest becomes impossible.
"The Best Time to Treat Insomnia Is The Moment It Starts Affecting Your Life"
We start by getting clear on what’s actually disrupting your sleep, and why it’s happening.
From there, the work is structured, practical, and grounded in research. We look at the full picture: your habits, your nervous system, your emotions, and the patterns that may be keeping your body from settling into rest.
Once we understand what’s driving the sleep disruption, we can treat it more effectively.
Techniques we use in sleep therapy
-
The gold-standard, evidence-based treatment for chronic insomnia — recommended over sleep medication by the American College of Physicians. CBT-I targets the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that perpetuate sleeplessness, using cognitive restructuring, sleep restriction, and stimulus control to retrain the brain's relationship with rest.
-
DBT skills — including distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and mindfulness — are highly effective for the heightened arousal and emotional reactivity that often underlie sleep disturbance. Clients learn concrete tools for calming the nervous system at bedtime and managing the frustration of sleepless nights.
-
For clients whose sleep problems are rooted in trauma, hypervigilance, or relational stress, Dieu integrates trauma-informed frameworks and attachment-based interventions. Addressing the deeper emotional patterns — not just the surface-level sleep habits — produces more durable results.
